NOVEMBER 6 – DEVOTIONAL

Happy Relationship Friday, Beloved! Thanks-Giving: Grateful Hearts, Open Hands

“Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.”
— 1 Chronicles 29:13–14, KJV

“But who am I?” Even as king, David stood before God with humility and wonder. His relationship with God shaped both his grateful heart and his generous hands. His love for God moved him to give from his personal treasures toward the temple (1 Chronicles 29:3). Yet, instead of boasting about how much he gave, David marveled that God had given him the ability to give! Everything in his hands had first come from God’s hands.

That relationship also found expression in his kindness toward others. In 2 Samuel 9:3, David asked, “Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him?” Remembering his covenant with Jonathan, David welcomed Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, who had a disability affecting both feet. He restored Saul’s land to him and gave him a permanent place at the king’s table, where he ate like one of the king’s sons.

What a beautiful picture of a grateful heart and open hands! David’s words of thanksgiving and his acts of kindness show us how honoring God can touch another person’s life. He offered Mephibosheth provision, dignity, and belonging.

Beloved, when we pause to ask, “Who am I, that God should love me and entrust me with so much?” we make room for gratitude to replace pride. The grace we receive can become the graciousness we extend. We may not have a palace or land to restore, but we can offer a meal, a listening ear, practical help, or a warm welcome to someone who feels forgotten.

Today, let your thanksgiving move beyond your lips into your relationships. Remember someone who has shown you kindness, honor a promise, and make room for someone who needs encouragement. A grateful heart says, “Thank You, Lord,” and open hands ask, “Who can I show Your kindness to today?”

Have a grateful Friday! May you and your family be encouraged to receive His grace with thankful hearts and extend His graciousness with open hands. Shalom!🙏🏽🙌🏾

Bible Reading Summary

EZEKIEL 14:12–16:41
God explains that even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the land, their righteousness could not save others from judgment. He then compares Jerusalem to a useless vine and describes its unfaithfulness through the picture of an abandoned child whom He lovingly cared for but who later turned away from Him. Jerusalem’s actions bring serious consequences. Key Themes: Personal responsibility, God’s judgment, unfaithfulness, gratitude, and the consequences of turning away from God.

HEBREWS 7:18–28
This passage explains that Jesus brings a better hope through which we can draw near to God. Unlike earthly priests who die and must be replaced, Jesus lives forever and serves as our eternal High Priest. He is holy, blameless, and able to save completely those who come to God through Him. Key Themes: Jesus as our eternal High Priest, a better covenant, complete salvation, hope, and access to God.

PSALM 106:1–12
The psalm begins by praising God for His goodness, unfailing love, and mighty works. It recalls how the Israelites forgot God’s goodness and complained at the Red Sea. Yet God rescued them, making a way through the sea and defeating their enemies. When they saw His power, they believed and praised Him. Key Themes: God’s goodness, mercy, faithfulness, remembering His works, and trusting Him in difficult times.

PROVERBS 27:4–6
These verses warn that anger and jealousy can be destructive, but honest correction from someone who loves us is valuable. Genuine friendship is not always about saying pleasant things; sometimes, a faithful friend must speak the truth, even when it is uncomfortable. Key Themes: True friendship, honest correction, the danger of jealousy, love, and sincerity.

Final Reflection
These passages remind us to remain faithful and grateful to God, remembering all He has done for us. Jesus is our perfect High Priest, always able to save and intercede for us. We should draw closer to Him, avoid the mistakes of unfaithfulness, and welcome correction from those who genuinely care about our growth.
