JUNE 12 – DEVOTIONAL

Relationship Friday – Mercy That Reaches Beyond You

📖 Genesis 19:16 (KJV)
“And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand… the LORD being merciful unto him…”

On our journey of faith, goodness, and mercy, this scripture reminds us that God’s mercy often steps into our situation even in moments of hesitation. Lot lingered, yet the Lord’s mercy reached for him and led him to safety. What a beautiful picture of grace! God’s goodness is not limited by our weakness; His mercy often moves on our behalf when we cannot fully see the way forward.

This rescue did not begin in Genesis 19. In the previous chapter, Abraham—the friend of God—stood in the gap and interceded for the city of Sodom. Though judgment came upon the city, Abraham’s cry for mercy was not forgotten. Through that relationship and prayer, Lot and his family experienced God’s merciful kindness, even in their hesitation.

Beloved, never underestimate the power of your relationship with the Lord and your prayers for others. Just as Abraham’s faith benefited Lot, and just as Lois and Eunice laid a strong spiritual foundation for Timothy, your faith and intercession can impact your children, grandchildren, and generations to come. There is no limit to the goodness and mercy that God can extend to your family through a life of faith and prayer.

✨ Have a faith-filled Relationship Friday and weekend! May you and your family continue to enjoy God’s goodness and mercy, and may His mercy always say “No” when evil, danger, and disaster attempt to show up. Shalom!🙏🏾🙌🏾

Bible Reading Summary

📖 1 Kings 9:1–10:29 — The Blessings of Obedience and God-Given Wisdom
The Lord appears to Solomon a second time, assuring him that He has heard his prayer and consecrated the Temple. God reminds Solomon that continued blessing is tied to walking in obedience and remaining faithful to His covenant. The chapter also highlights Solomon’s extraordinary wisdom, wealth, accomplishments, and international influence, culminating in the visit of the Queen of Sheba, who marvels at God’s favor upon him.

Key Theme: God blesses obedience, and a life surrendered to Him becomes a testimony that draws others to recognize His greatness.

📖 Acts 8:14–40 — The Power of the Holy Spirit and Divine Guidance
The apostles Peter and John travel to Samaria, where new believers receive the Holy Spirit. Simon the sorcerer learns that the gifts of God cannot be bought with money but are received through God’s grace. Later, Philip is divinely directed to meet an Ethiopian official who is searching for truth in the Scriptures. Philip shares the gospel, leading the man to faith and baptism before the Spirit sends Philip elsewhere to continue the work of ministry.

Key Theme: God empowers His people through the Holy Spirit and orchestrates divine appointments to bring others into His kingdom.

📖 Psalm 130:1–8 — Hope in God’s Mercy and Redemption
From a place of deep distress, the psalmist cries out to the Lord and acknowledges that if God counted sins against us, no one could stand. Yet God offers forgiveness, mercy, and redemption. The psalm encourages believers to wait on the Lord with confident hope, trusting in His unfailing love and abundant grace.

Key Theme: No situation is beyond God’s mercy, and those who place their hope in Him will find forgiveness, restoration, and redemption.

📖 Proverbs 17:2–3 — Wisdom, Faithfulness, and Refinement
These verses teach that a wise and faithful servant can be elevated to positions of honor, while reminding us that just as silver and gold are refined by fire, the Lord examines and refines the hearts of His people. God’s refining process develops character and prepares us for greater purpose.

Key Theme: God values character, faithfulness, and a refined heart more than status, position, or outward appearance.

Final Reflection:
Today’s readings remind us that God honors obedience, empowers believers through His Spirit, extends mercy to those who seek Him, and refines His people for greater usefulness. Whether through seasons of blessing, opportunities to share our faith, moments of waiting, or times of testing, God is faithfully at work. As we walk with Him, may we remain obedient, sensitive to His leading, confident in His mercy, and willing to embrace His refining process, knowing that He is shaping us for His glory and our good. Amen! 🙏🏾🙌🏾
