SEPTEMBER 23 – DEVOTIONAL
BEAUTY FOR OUR ASHES | REBUILDING BROKEN PLACES
Isaiah 61:3–4 | Nehemiah 2:17–18 | Nehemiah 6:15–16
Beauty for ashes does not always look like receiving something new; sometimes it is God giving us grace to rebuild what has been broken. Divine transformation turns our pain into compassion, our burden into purpose, and our testimony into an assignment.
Nehemiah received the devastating news that Jerusalem’s walls were broken down and its gates had been burned with fire. He wept, fasted, and prayed (Nehemiah 1:3–4). The broken walls represented more than damaged buildings—they reflected a community living in vulnerability and distress.
But Nehemiah did not remain in mourning. God transformed his grief into action. He returned to Jerusalem, assessed the ruins, rallied the people, and declared, “Let us rise up and build.”
Despite opposition, the walls were completed, and the people saw that God had been with them (Nehemiah 6:15–16).
God restores us so that we can become restorers. Rebuilding does not always begin with something big. You can begin by serving in whatever way God has placed within your reach—with your time, gifts, talents, resources, encouragement, prayers, or simply being present for someone who needs support. The ruins we have survived may give us the compassion and understanding needed to help repair someone else’s broken place.
Beloved, what broken place has God placed on your heart? Perhaps it is a family, a relationship, a ministry, a community, or someone who has lost hope. Your transformation may be carrying an assignment bigger than yourself.
May God give you the grace to see beyond the ashes, the courage to rise, and the wisdom and strength to rebuild what He has placed in your hands.
You do not have to rebuild everything at once. Start with what God has placed before you, gather those He has sent alongside you, and trust Him to bring beauty out of the ruins.

Bible Reading Summary
Isaiah 41:17–43:13
God promises to help His thirsty and helpless people, providing water and making the wilderness fruitful. He reminds Israel that they are His chosen people and should not fear. God declares that He alone is God and challenges false idols. He promises to be with His people through fire and water, redeeming and protecting them. Israel is called to be His witnesses and testify that He alone saves.

Ephesians 2:1–22
Paul reminds believers that they were once spiritually dead because of sin, but God made them alive through Christ. Salvation is a gift of grace received through faith, not something we earn. Christ has also broken down the barriers between people, creating one new family. Believers are now part of God’s household and are being built together as His dwelling place.
Key Themes: Grace, salvation, faith, new life, unity, reconciliation, and belonging to God.
Psalm 67:1–7
The psalmist asks God to bless His people so that His ways and salvation will be known throughout the earth. All nations are called to praise God because He judges fairly and guides the peoples. The psalm celebrates God’s provision and ends with confidence that His blessing will cause the earth to produce its abundance.
Key Themes: God’s blessing, praise, salvation, justice, guidance, provision, and worldwide worship.
Proverbs 23:29–35
These verses warn about the painful consequences of excessive drinking. They describe sorrow, conflict, poor judgment, and physical harm that can result from alcohol abuse. The passage shows how easily addiction can control a person and make them return to something that has already caused pain. It calls for wisdom, self-control, and careful choices.
Key Themes: Self-control, consequences, wisdom, addiction, harmful choices, and discipline.
Final Reflection
These passages remind us that God meets us in our weakness, saves us by His grace, provides for us, and gives us a new identity in Christ. He calls us to trust Him, live wisely, and become witnesses of His goodness.
A HEARTFELT NOTE OF APPRECIATION
Today, BOA continues to give thanks to God for His faithfulness and for exceeding our expectations! I am eternally grateful for my ordination and for the wonderful speakers and ministers who stood alongside my father in the Lord or served in different positions, blessed our annual conference and anniversary, and impacted the lives of our attendees.
In the spirit of 1 Timothy 5:17, which calls us to give double honor to those who lead well, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching, I want to specially honor my father in the Lord, Rev. Canon Dr. Lawrence Tetteh.
Words cannot fully express my gratitude. I am deeply grateful that he flew in from Ghana three times within one month just to be a blessing—including celebrating my daughter’s wedding and officiating my ordination. His love, sacrifice, and fatherly support mean more than I can say.
I thank God that our generation still has great men who are secure in their calling, recognize the potential and dedication of others, and extend a helping hand so they, too, can arise and shine. I do not take his endorsement for granted, especially knowing that the grace and contributions of women in ministry have not always been fully recognized or given room to flourish. I am truly grateful that he recognized God’s grace upon my life and helped make room for its expression.
With heartfelt love and appreciation, I also celebrate Apostle Dr. Patience Oti, Rev. Dr. Renee Mills, Rev. Henrietta Ekekezie, Pastor Tim Hardison, Rev. Dr. Maureen McIntosh, Rev. Emmanuel Boateng and Dr. Emma Boateng, Minister Tracy Bowling, Ms. Sylvia Boswell and Minister April Gibbons who served in different capacities towards the success of the program. Their presence, ministry, and encouragement made this milestone deeply meaningful.
Every other minister whose name may not appear in today’s appreciation is also deeply valued. Their prayers, encouragement, and service are treasured, and I am grateful for every contribution made in love. ❤️
May the good Lord replenish all they have poured out, strengthen them for every assignment, and bless their families and ministries abundantly. As they have helped others arise and shine, may their own light shine ever brighter, and may the fruit of their labor bless generations to come!
