“Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.”
1 Chronicles 29:12–13 KJV
Today’s scripture reveals why we can begin this month with grateful hearts: everything belongs to God, and He reigns over all! David’s praise points us to the One whose hands hold both the power to change our circumstances and the strength to carry us through them. The God who brought us this far remains faithful for the journey ahead!
On this first Sunday, let us pause before presenting our requests and say, “Father, thank You!” Thank You for life, sustaining grace, answered prayers, and mercies we did not even recognize. Every new breath is another opportunity to acknowledge His goodness. We enter October remembering what He has done and trusting Him with what is yet to unfold.
Beloved, thanksgiving helps us turn our attention from the weight of our concerns to the greatness of our God. When our hearts feel weary, we can bring that weariness into His presence. Our Creator is also our Provider, Protector, Comforter, Healer, and Restorer. We can face what we do not know with confidence in the One we do know!
As we embrace our month of Joy & Peace in Believing, may gratitude shape our words, praise fill our homes, and trust settle our hearts. May you and your family be strengthened by His presence, refreshed by His love, and filled with joy and peace that carry you through life’s changing circumstances.
Begin with thanksgiving, walk forward in faith, and leave room for God to surprise you with His goodness! Happy Sunday! Shalom! 🙏🏾🙌🏾
Jeremiah 2:31–4:18
God calls His people to recognize how far they have wandered from Him. Israel has chased other gods and trusted in things that cannot save. Yet God still invites them to return and promises restoration. He warns them to repent sincerely, not just outwardly. True repentance means turning away from sin and returning wholeheartedly to God.
Key Themes: Repentance, returning to God, idolatry, faithfulness, restoration, obedience, and God’s mercy.
Colossians 1:1–17
Paul thanks God for the faith and love of the believers in Colossae. He prays that they will grow in wisdom and understanding so they can live lives that please God. He reminds them that Christ has rescued us from darkness, forgiven our sins, and brought us into His kingdom. Christ is supreme over all creation.
Key Themes: Faith, love, spiritual growth, wisdom, forgiveness, salvation, Christ’s supremacy, and walking with God.
Psalm 76:1–12
The psalm celebrates God’s greatness and power. He is known among His people as the One who brings peace and defeats those who oppose Him. Human strength cannot stand against Him. The psalm calls everyone to honour God, keep their promises to Him, and recognize that even human anger can ultimately serve His purposes.
Key Themes: God’s power, peace, victory, reverence, justice, worship, and God’s sovereignty.
Proverbs 24:21–22
These verses encourage us to fear the Lord and respect rightful authority rather than joining those who are rebellious or constantly seeking change. They warn that sudden destruction can come upon those who reject wisdom and order. The passage encourages humility, wisdom, and careful choices in how we respond to authority.
Key Themes: Reverence for God, wisdom, respect for authority, humility, obedience, and consequences.
Final Reflection
Today’s passages remind us that God desires our hearts, not just outward religion. Jeremiah shows us that even when we wander, God continues to call us back to Him. Colossians reminds us to keep growing in our knowledge of Christ, while Psalm 76 reveals His unmatched power. Proverbs encourages us to walk wisely and respectfully. Whatever season we are in, we can always return to God, grow in Him, and trust His authority over our lives.
