OCTOBER 16 – DEVOTIONAL

🌿 ALL JOY & PEACE — MANIFESTING THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IN RELATIONSHIPS 🌿

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
— Ephesians 4:2–3, NIV

The fruit of our fellowship with Jesus becomes visible in how we treat people: humility when we want to prove a point, gentleness when our words could wound, patience when others disappoint us, and love that makes room for growth.

But this fruit begins with a relationship—our relationship with Jesus! He is the Vine; we are the branches. As we remain connected to Him, His life nourishes us and His character grows in us (John 15:5). What we receive in fellowship with Him, we learn to express in fellowship with others.

“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
— Romans 14:17, KJV

Through faith in Jesus, we become the righteousness of God in Him. Our right standing with God is a gift of grace, not a reward for perfection. As we surrender our imperfections to our perfect Saviour, His Spirit transforms our hearts—and that transformation touches our homes, friendships, and everyday encounters.

His joy strengthens us through changing circumstances. His peace teaches us to pause before reacting. His love helps us listen with compassion, forgive with sincerity, and pursue unity even when we disagree. Every difficult moment can become an opportunity for His fruit to grow.
We see a helpful contrast in David and Saul. When confronted with sin, Saul’s response included concern for his honour before the people (1 Samuel 15:30). David, confronted by Nathan, acknowledged his sin and later prayed, “Create in me a pure heart, and restore unto me the joy of thy salvation” (Psalm 51:12). David was deeply imperfect, but he turned back to God in repentance. His hope rested in God’s mercy.

Beloved, it is our relationship with Jesus that makes us righteous before God and helps to nourish other relationship in our lives. Before asking God to change someone else, maybe we should ask, “Lord, what fruit do You want to grow in me?” May the grace we receive from Him become the grace we extend to others.

Have a joyful, blessed Relationship Friday and weekend! May you and your family be encouraged to stay rooted in Christ, speak with kindness, bear with one another in love, and overflow with joy and peace in believing! Shalom!🙏🏽

Bible Reading Summary

Jeremiah 28:1–29:32
Jeremiah confronts false prophets who promise peace and a quick return from exile. God confirms that His people will remain in Babylon for seventy years before He restores them. Through a letter to the exiles, God encourages them to settle down, seek the welfare of their city, and trust His promise of a hopeful future. He also warns against deception.
Key Themes: Truth, false prophets, patience, obedience, God’s promises, restoration, hope, and trusting God’s timing.

1 Timothy 1:1–20
Paul encourages Timothy to remain in Ephesus and correct false teachings that distract people from the truth. He explains that God’s law is good when used properly and that love, a pure heart, and sincere faith are important. Paul shares how God’s mercy transformed him from a persecutor into a servant of Christ, showing that God’s grace is available to sinners.
Key Themes: Sound teaching, sincere faith, love, God’s mercy, grace, forgiveness, spiritual responsibility, and perseverance.

Psalm 86:1–17
David cries out to God for help, asking Him to listen, show mercy, and strengthen him. Despite his troubles, David trusts in God’s goodness, forgiveness, and unfailing love. He praises God as the only true God and asks for guidance to walk faithfully. He also seeks a sign of God’s favour to encourage him during difficult times.

Proverbs 25:17

Final Reflection
Today’s passages remind us that God’s plans are trustworthy, even when they require patience. Jeremiah teaches us not to believe every message we hear but to hold firmly to God’s truth. Paul reminds us that God’s grace can transform anyone and calls us to live with sincere faith and love. David shows us the importance of seeking God in difficult times, while Proverbs teaches us to respect others and their boundaries. May we trust God’s timing, grow in His grace, and treat others with wisdom and consideration.
