MAY 22 – DEVOTIONAL
Transformational Grace In Relationship:Grace That Finds Us
“And David said, ‘Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?’”
— 2 Samuel 9:1 (KJV)
This passage reveals the beauty of transformational grace and covenant relationship. David searched for Mephibosheth, not because he deserved it, but because of his relationship with Jonathan. Though Mephibosheth was broken, hiding in Lo-debar, and expecting rejection, grace came looking for him. Praise God!
Beloved, this is how God loves us. He does not wait for us to become perfect before reaching for us. Grace does not ask, “What happened to you?” Grace asks, “Where are you?” Through Jesus Christ, God calls us out of shame, fear, rejection, and brokenness into restoration and relationship with Him.
Many people experience their own “Lo-debar” seasons through pain, disappointment, betrayal, or struggles in life. Yet transformational grace reminds us that we are not forgotten or disqualified. God’s grace still finds us, restores us, and gives us a seat at the King’s table. Praise God!

Today, may we also like David and many in the Bible be empowered to extend that same grace, love, loyalty, and kindness in our relationships with others.
Have a safe and gracious Relationship Friday. May you and your loved ones be encouraged to keep growing in your relationship with Jesus and with one another. May His transformational grace abound in your homes with love, peace, healing, and covenant faithfulness in Christ Jesus. Shalom.🙏🙌🏾
Bible Readings Summary
📖 2 SAMUEL 1:1–2:11 — Honoring, Mourning & Stepping Into Purpose
David receives news of Saul and Jonathan’s death and responds not with celebration, but with deep grief and honor. Though Saul had pursued David for years, David still respected God’s anointed and mourned his loss. David’s lament for Jonathan also reveals the beauty of covenant friendship and loyalty. After this season of mourning, David begins stepping into his God-ordained role as king over Judah.
Key Theme: Honor God’s process, even through painful transitions.
God often prepares us for new beginnings through seasons of humility, grief, and trust.
📖 JOHN 12:20–50 — Jesus the Light of the World
Jesus speaks about His coming sacrifice, declaring that unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone—but through death comes much fruitfulness. He calls people to walk in the light while they still have the opportunity. Though many witnessed His miracles, some still struggled with unbelief because of fear of people and love of human praise over God’s approval.
Key Theme: Surrender brings multiplication and eternal impact.
Following Christ requires dying to self, walking in His light, and choosing God’s approval above man’s opinion.
📖 PSALM 118:19–29 — Thanksgiving for God’s Salvation
This passage is filled with joyful praise and celebration. The psalmist rejoices because God has become his salvation. We also see the prophetic declaration: “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” This points to Jesus Christ, who was rejected by many yet became the foundation of salvation for all.
Key Theme: Rejection does not cancel God’s purpose.
What people overlook or reject, God can raise up for His glory.
📖 PROVERBS 15:27–28 — Wisdom in Speech & Integrity
These proverbs warn against greed and dishonest gain while highlighting the importance of thoughtful, righteous speech. The righteous person pauses to consider before speaking, while the wicked speak carelessly.
Key Theme: A wise heart produces godly words and honorable living.
Integrity and careful speech protect both our lives and relationships.
🌸 Final Reflection:
Today’s readings remind us that God works through transitions, surrender, rejection, and wisdom. David teaches us honor in difficult seasons. Jesus shows us that true fruitfulness comes through surrender. The Psalm reminds us that rejection can become divine promotion, and Proverbs calls us to live with integrity and wisdom. No matter what season you are in, God is still guiding your steps and fulfilling His purpose in your life.
