Thanksgiving for First Sunday - Worshipping the Most High
“Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, who covers Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain.”
— Psalm 104:1–2
Beloved, on this first Sunday of August, let your heart behold and exalt the Most High God because the highest form of worship occurs when we lift our eyes completely off our circumstances, our needs, and ourselves, and fix them solely on who God is.
Psalm 104 describes the beauty, power, and greatness of God in an amazing way. The Psalmist gazes at creation—the heavens stretched out like a curtain, the winds as His messengers, the foundations of the earth established by His word—and can only cry out, “O Lord my God, You are very great!”
He is the Most High—elevated above every power, supreme over every kingdom, transcendent in beauty, and clothed in unapproachable light and majesty.
When you enter a new month with praise and thanksgiving, you aren’t just looking at what lies ahead—you are acknowledging the God who holds every single day in His hands.
Do not carry the unresolved worries, disappointments, or weariness of July into this fresh season. Instead, lay them down at the altar today. Give praise for:
✨The Grace That Kept You: You are here today because His mercies are new every morning.
✨The Unseen Protection: God fought battles behind the scenes on your behalf that you never even knew about.
✨The New Horizon: The number 8 is God’s reminder that your story is not finished—He is making a way where there seems to be no way.
O Lord, Most High God, You are clothed in honor, splendor, and unimaginable majesty! Heaven is Your throne, and the earth is Your footstool. Today, I bring You the sacrifice of praise—not for what You can give me, but simply for who You are. You are the Almighty Creator, the Sovereign King, the Alpha, and the Omega. I bow my heart in reverence before Your holy presence. Be exalted above the heavens, O God, and let Your glory shine over all the earth. In the majestic name of Jesus, Amen.

2 Chronicles 32:1–33:13
After Assyria attacked Judah, Hezekiah trusted God, strengthened Jerusalem’s defenses, and encouraged the people not to fear. In answer to the prayers of Hezekiah and Isaiah, God miraculously defeated the Assyrian army. Although Hezekiah later became proud, he humbled himself and received God’s mercy. His son Manasseh led Judah into extreme wickedness and idolatry, but after being taken captive, he sincerely repented. His words highlight the importance of unity, generosity, prayer, and the valuable contribution of every believer in advancing God’s Kingdom.

Psalm 25:16–22
David cried out to God in the midst of loneliness, suffering, and opposition, asking for mercy, forgiveness, protection, and deliverance. Despite his troubles, he placed his hope in God’s faithfulness and prayed not only for himself but also for the redemption of all Israel. His prayer demonstrates complete dependence on God during difficult times.

Proverbs 20:16–18
These proverbs encourage wise decision-making by warning against guaranteeing another person’s debts, pursuing dishonest gain, and acting without careful planning. They emphasize that integrity, honesty, and seeking wise counsel lead to stability and success, while deceit ultimately brings regret.

Final Reflection
These passages remind us that God is faithful to deliver, forgive, and restore those who trust and humble themselves before Him. They also teach that a life of prayer, faithful service, integrity, and wise decision-making honors God and strengthens both our personal walk and our relationships with others. As we depend on His guidance in every circumstance, we can trust Him to direct our steps, accomplish His purposes, and extend His grace even in our greatest moments of weakness.
