JULY 31 – DEVOTIONAL
Praise — The Key to God’s Glory🙌🏾
Text: Psalm 150:6; 2 Samuel 6:14–23
“Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.” — Psalm 150:6 (KJV)
Today, as we round up this month, we are reminded that the only qualification for giving praise and glory to God is that we are still breathing.
Throughout this month, we have learned from the lives of many men and women in the Bible that praise is not a religious ritual or something we do only when life is easy and everything is going well. Rather, it is the genuine response of a grateful heart to the Giver of life. Every breath we take is a gift and an opportunity to join the angels of heaven in praising the only wise King, to whom belong “blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might,” according to Revelation 7:12.
David stands out as one of the greatest examples of this lifestyle of praise. In 2 Samuel 6:14–23, we see the contrast between David and Michal in how they each valued God’s presence. The truth is that the value we place on our relationship with God determines the depth of our praise—or the absence of it. David danced before the Lord with all his might, not out of performance, but from a heart overflowing with genuine gratitude. He was not concerned about who was watching; he only desired to honor God. His praise was pure, passionate, and personal.
Michal, on the other hand, watched with criticism. Her heart was focused on status, appearance, and public image—values she had inherited from her father, King Saul. Sadly, her disregard for God’s presence and her contempt for David’s worship led to barrenness—not only physically, but spiritually as well.
Beloved, true praise is more than a song; it is the posture of a surrendered heart. When our gratitude toward God—and toward others—is sincere, our relationship with God grows deeper, and that transformation flows into our relationships with people. As we have seen throughout this month, praise precedes breakthrough, restoration, and victory. It is a powerful weapon of conquest. God fights battles we cannot see, and He honors those who honor Him.
As we come to the close of this month, may you choose relationship over religion and authenticity over appearance, just as David did. May your praise be genuine, your gratitude run deep, and your intimacy with God overflow into love, grace, and favor in every relationship.

📖 2 Chronicles 29:1–36 — Revival Begins When We Return to God
King Hezekiah begins his reign by reopening the doors of the Temple, cleansing and consecrating it after years of neglect under King Ahaz. He calls the priests and Levites to sanctify themselves, restore true worship, and lead the nation back to the Lord. As sacrifices are offered and songs of praise fill the Temple once again, God’s people experience spiritual renewal and great rejoicing. The restoration happens quickly because the people respond wholeheartedly to God’s call.
Key Theme: True revival begins with repentance, consecration, and restoring God to His rightful place. When we return to Him with sincere hearts, He brings renewal, joy, and restoration.
📖 Romans 14:1–23 — Love Builds Up; Judgment Tears Down
Paul instructs believers to accept one another without arguing over personal convictions regarding food, holy days, and other disputable matters. Since each believer belongs to the Lord, we are not called to judge one another but to walk in love, protect each other’s faith, and pursue peace. God’s Kingdom is not centered on external practices but on righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Love should always take priority over personal preferences.
Key Theme: Christian maturity is demonstrated through love, humility, and consideration for others rather than insisting on our own opinions or freedoms.
📖 Psalm 24:1–10 — Welcome the King of Glory
David proclaims that the earth and everything in it belong to the Lord. He then asks, “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?” The answer is those who come before Him with clean hands, pure hearts, and sincere devotion. The psalm concludes with a triumphant invitation for the gates to be lifted up so that the King of Glory may enter. He alone is the Lord Almighty—the victorious King worthy of all honor and praise.
Key Theme: God’s glory dwells with those who seek Him with purity, integrity, and wholehearted devotion.
📖 Proverbs 20:12 — Every Gift Comes from the Lord
“The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them.”
This proverb reminds us that our ability to hear, see, understand, and discern are all gifts from God. Since He is the source of every good gift, we should remain humble, teachable, and attentive to His voice.
Key Theme: God is the source of all wisdom and understanding, and a teachable heart is one that honors Him.
✨ Final Reflection:
Today’s readings beautifully conclude the month by reminding us that God’s greatest desire is not outward religion but transformed hearts. Hezekiah teaches us that revival begins when we return wholeheartedly to God and restore His rightful place in our lives. Romans reminds us that love and unity are greater than personal preferences, while Psalm 24 calls us to prepare our hearts for the King of Glory through purity and wholehearted devotion. Proverbs encourages us to remain humble, recognizing that every ability and every blessing comes from the Lord. As we close this Month of Praise with Gratitude & Glory, may we continue to cultivate hearts of worship, walk in love toward others, pursue holiness, and welcome the King of Glory into every area of our lives. May His presence continually renew you, His peace guide you, and His glory shine through you each day. Amen! 🙏🏾
