SEPTEMBER 21 – DEVOTIONAL

Isaiah 37:1–38:22

When King Hezekiah hears the threats of Assyria, he humbles himself and turns to God in prayer. Isaiah assures him that God has heard his prayer and will defend Jerusalem. God answers by sending His angel against the Assyrian army, and the enemy withdraws. Later, Hezekiah becomes seriously ill and prays for healing. God gives him fifteen more years of life and confirms His promise with a sign. The passage shows that God hears sincere prayer, protects His people, and has power over every situation.

Galatians 6:1–18

Paul encourages believers to help restore those who fall into sin with gentleness and humility. Christians are called to carry one another’s burdens while also taking responsibility for their own actions. Paul teaches that whatever a person sows, they will eventually reap, so believers should sow into what is good and not become tired of doing good. He encourages generosity and perseverance. Paul concludes by focusing on the cross of Christ and reminds believers that what matters is becoming a new creation, not outward religious appearance.

Psalm 65:1–13

David praises God as the One who hears prayer and forgives sin. He celebrates God’s goodness and His power over creation. God provides rain, waters the earth, causes crops to grow, and fills the land with abundance. The psalm paints a beautiful picture of fields, valleys, hills, and pastures rejoicing because of God’s provision. David reminds us that everything we have ultimately comes from God. His goodness is seen not only in spiritual blessings but also in the daily provision and beauty of creation.

Proverbs 23:24

This verse highlights the joy that comes when a child chooses to live wisely and righteously. A father rejoices when his child grows into a person who loves what is right and speaks truth. The verse reminds us that godly character is a valuable gift that brings joy to families. It also encourages us to recognise that our choices affect those who love and support us. Living wisely is therefore not only a personal blessing but also a source of encouragement to others.

Final Reflection

These passages remind us that we can turn to God in every situation. Hezekiah faced threats and sickness, but he brought both situations before God and experienced His intervention. Galatians teaches us to support others, live responsibly, and continue doing good. Psalm 65 reminds us to recognise God as the source of our forgiveness and provision, while Proverbs shows the joy that comes from a life of wisdom.
