OCTOBER 30 – DEVOTIONAL

JOY AND PEACE IN BELIEVING—LET IT SHOW IN OUR RELATIONSHIPS!

“Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy.”‭— Proverbs 12:20 NIV‬

As we close this last Friday of the month, our opening scripture reminds us that promoting peace brings joy. Our relationship with God should become visible in how we treat people reasonably —in the patience we offer, the kindness in our words, and the grace we extend when someone disappoints us. The love, joy, and peace growing within us should become something others experience around us.

Beloved, trusting God changes how we handle relationships. We can listen or be silent without preparing an argument, disagree without dishonoring, and apologize without defending every mistake. We don’t have to win every conversation or have the last word. Sometimes, the clearest evidence of our growth is silence or a gentler response where there once would have been anger.

Proverbs 16:7 reminds us that when our ways please the Lord, He can cause even our enemies to be at peace with us. When Laban pursued Jacob, God intervened, warning Laban against threatening or harming him; their encounter eventually led to a covenant of peace (Genesis 31). God can work in hearts we cannot change and in conversations we cannot control. We don’t have to force relationships or chase acceptance. We can do what is right, maintain healthy boundaries, and trust Him with the outcome.

Everything we have learned from the Scriptures in this month’s devotion rests on believing in the Lord of all hope, who fills us with joy and peace as we trust Him (Romans 15:13). And even when believing feels difficult, we can trust Him to help our unbelief. The honest prayer, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” is a place to begin, not a reason to withdraw (Mark 9:24).

Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9). If you forget anything else we have studied this month, don’t forget to let peace begin with you- choose peace beloved! In your relationships, your family, your workplace, and every opportunity—be the peacemaker. Speak truth with kindness, refuse to feed gossip, and make room for understanding. Choosing peace does not mean accepting mistreatment; it means responding with wisdom instead of returning hurt for hurt.

May you and your family be encouraged as we close this month—with grateful hearts, open hands, and renewed confidence in God. May His love shape your responses, His peace guide your relationships, and His joy remain your strength. Shalom!🙏🏾
