SEPTEMBER 2 – DEVOTIONAL

Ecclesiastes 1:1–3:22

The Teacher reflects on the meaning of life and observes that human work, pleasure, wisdom, and achievements can feel meaningless because everything eventually passes away. He describes the repeated cycles of nature and the temporary nature of human accomplishments. Yet he also recognises that there is a proper time for everything—a time to be born, die, plant, harvest, weep, laugh, and build. God has made everything beautiful in its time, and people should enjoy the simple blessings of life as gifts from Him.

2 Corinthians 6:1–13

Paul encourages believers not to receive God’s grace in vain but to live faithfully while serving Him. Yet they continue serving with purity, patience, kindness, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul urges the Corinthians to open their hearts to him as he has opened his heart to them. His message is a call to sincere faith and faithful Christian living.

Psalm 46:1–11

This psalm declares that God is our refuge, strength, and ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, God’s people do not need to fear even when the earth shakes, mountains fall, or nations are in turmoil. God is present with His people and brings peace in the middle of chaos. The psalm calls us to be still and recognise that He is God. He is exalted among the nations and remains our secure refuge.

Proverbs 22:15

This proverb explains that foolishness can naturally be found in a child’s heart. Proper correction and discipline help guide children away from destructive behaviour and teach them wisdom. The verse highlights the responsibility of parents and guardians to provide loving, consistent guidance rather than allowing harmful habits to grow unchecked.

Final Reflection

Today’s passages remind us that life is temporary, but God remains constant. Ecclesiastes teaches us not to place our ultimate hope in achievements, possessions, or earthly experiences because they do not last. Paul encourages us to use our time wisely by faithfully living out God’s grace, even when serving Him is difficult. Psalm 46 reminds us that when everything around us feels unstable, God remains our refuge and strength. Proverbs reminds us that wisdom and character must be developed early.

The simple lesson is this: Don’t let temporary things control your heart. Trust God, embrace each season of life, live faithfully, and find your security in His unchanging presence.
