AUGUST 30 – DEVOTIONAL
Thank You, Lord, for New Beginnings
Text: Psalm 126:3; Psalm 103:1–5; 1 Thessalonians 5:18
As we round up this month’s devotionals on New Beginnings: Embracing Divine Change, today we pause—not to ask for anything, but simply to say, “Thank You, Lord.” We have walked through Scriptures that reminded us to release the past, trust God in unfamiliar seasons, recognize His new thing, and believe Him for restoration. Now, our response is gratitude.
The children of Israel often looked back and remembered what God had done for them, and the psalmist declared, “The Lord hath done great things for us.” There is power in remembering. When we look back over this month, we can see the fingerprints of God’s grace—His protection, provision, strength, mercy, correction, restoration, and the countless ways He has carried us.
Beloved, perhaps every prayer you prayed has not yet received the answer you expected. Even so, there is much to thank God for. We can thank Him for the doors He opened and the ones He closed, for the seasons He allowed us to enter and those He brought us through. We can thank Him for giving us another opportunity to begin again. Gratitude does not deny what was difficult; it reminds us that God’s goodness has been present through it all.
So today, let your praise rise from a grateful heart. Thank Him for the past, praise Him for the present, and trust Him with the future. The new beginning may still be unfolding, but the One who began the work is faithful.
Have a Praise-filled Sunday! May you and your family continually experience God’s goodness, mercy, favour, and peace. May gratitude become the language of your hearts, and may every new beginning remind you of His faithfulness and give you even more reasons to praise Him. Shalom! 🙏🏾
Bible Reading Summary
Job 34:1–36:33
Elihu continues speaking about God’s justice and greatness. He argues that God never does wrong and judges everyone fairly, whether rich or poor. He explains that God sees everything and knows people’s actions and motives. Elihu also reminds Job that God uses suffering to teach and correct people, although God’s ways are far beyond human understanding. He encourages Job to recognise God’s greatness and wisdom rather than questioning His justice.

2 Corinthians 4:1–12
Paul explains that he does not give up because God has entrusted him with the Gospel. He rejects dishonesty and reminds believers that Christ is the centre of his message. Although Paul and his fellow workers face suffering, rejection, and weakness, they continue serving faithfully. Their struggles reveal the life and power of Jesus working through them. Paul shows that God’s strength can be displayed through human weakness and that their suffering serves a greater purpose.

Psalm 44:1–8
The psalmist remembers how God helped their ancestors defeat their enemies and gave them victory. He recognises that their success did not come from their own strength or weapons but from God’s power and favour. Because of what God had done in the past, the people continue to trust Him. They praise God and declare that He is their King and their source of victory. Their confidence is based on God’s faithfulness.

Proverbs 22:10–12
These verses show the value of removing people who create unnecessary conflict and surrounding ourselves with those who value peace. A person who loves purity of heart and speaks graciously will find favour with others. The passage also reminds us that God protects truth and exposes false or dishonest speech. It encourages us to choose our relationships wisely, speak with kindness, and live with integrity.

Final Reflection
Today’s passages remind us that God is greater than our understanding, and His strength is revealed even through our weaknesses. Job challenges us to trust God’s justice when we do not understand His ways. Paul encourages us not to give up when serving God becomes difficult. Psalm 44 reminds us to remember what God has done before and allow those memories to strengthen our faith. Proverbs teaches us to choose peaceful relationships and speak with wisdom.
The simple lesson is this: Trust God’s wisdom, remain faithful through difficulties, remember His faithfulness, and let your words and relationships reflect His character.
