Text: 2 Samuel 9:1–13; 1 Peter 5:10
Mephibosheth had every reason to believe that his story was over. He was crippled, living in Lo-debar, and carrying the pain and loss connected to his family. Yet one day, David sent for him—not to condemn him, but to restore him. Because of Jonathan’s covenant with David, Mephibosheth was brought from a place of obscurity and given a permanent place at the king’s table.
What a beautiful picture of grace. Mephibosheth did not earn his place at the table; it was given to him because of a covenant he did not establish himself. In the same way, our relationship with God is rooted in His grace and love toward us. And when we truly understand the grace we have received, it changes how we treat others.
David had every reason to hold on to the past, yet he chose kindness. He could have remembered Saul’s opposition and Jonathan’s death, but instead, he asked, “Is there not yet any… that I may shew the kindness of God unto him?” His relationship with God shaped the way he responded to someone connected to a painful chapter of his life.
Beloved, sometimes a new beginning is not only about where God is taking us; it is also about how He is teaching us to love differently. Perhaps there is someone who needs the grace, kindness, forgiveness, or acceptance that God has freely given you. As we remain connected to Christ, His grace enables us to become instruments of restoration in the lives of others.
Have a grace-filled weekend May you and your family continually experience God’s grace, kindness, favour, and restoration. May the love you receive from Him overflow into every relationship, and may your life become a beautiful expression of the grace that gives others hope for a new beginning. Shalom! 🙏🏾
Job 1:1–3:26
Job was a wealthy and upright man who feared God and lived faithfully. God allowed Satan to test Job, and Job suddenly lost his children, wealth, and possessions. Despite his terrible losses, Job initially worshipped God and refused to blame Him. Later, Job became physically afflicted and sat in deep pain. His friends came to comfort him but offered little comfort. Eventually, Job expressed his deep sorrow, questioning why he was born and why such suffering had come upon him.
Key Themes: Faith during suffering, loss, perseverance, grief, trusting God, and honest prayer.
1 Corinthians 14:1–17
Paul encourages believers to pursue love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially prophecy because it strengthens, encourages, and comforts others. He explains that speaking in tongues is valuable when there is interpretation, but prophecy is more helpful to the whole church when everyone can understand it. Paul emphasises that spiritual gifts should not simply impress people; they should build up the body of Christ. Even personal prayer and worship should be balanced with consideration for others.
Key Themes: Love, spiritual gifts, understanding, encouragement, edification, and responsible worship.
Psalm 37:12–29
David contrasts the temporary success of wicked people with the lasting security of those who trust God. The wicked may plan against the righteous, but God will ultimately bring justice. The righteous may experience difficulties, but the Lord supports them and provides for them. David encourages God’s people to turn away from evil, do good, and trust the Lord. Those who live faithfully will be established, while those who reject God’s ways will eventually fall.
Key Themes: God’s justice, trusting God, righteousness, provision, perseverance, and the temporary nature of evil.
Proverbs 21:25–26
These verses describe the lazy person who constantly desires things but refuses to work for them. Their lack of diligence leads to poverty and disappointment. In contrast, the righteous person is generous and willingly gives to others. The passage teaches that God wants us to be hardworking, responsible, and generous rather than selfish or lazy. True blessing is not simply having more but being willing to use what we have to help others.
Key Themes: Diligence, generosity, responsibility, contentment, hard work, and avoiding laziness.
Final Reflection
Today’s passages remind us that faith is not proven only when life is easy. Job shows us that even in deep suffering and confusion, we can bring our honest emotions to God. Paul reminds us that our spiritual gifts should be used to strengthen and encourage others, while Psalm 37 encourages us not to be discouraged when evil seems to prosper. Proverbs teaches us to work diligently and remain generous.
The simple lesson is this: Trust God in difficult seasons, use what He has given you to bless others, work faithfully, and never allow temporary circumstances to destroy your confidence in God.
